Setting up the Mako X is straightforward, especially for those already within the Razer ecosystem. The speakers utilize Razer Synapse for deep customization of lighting effects and EQ profiles. The physical design is particularly clever; the 40-degree tilt is not just aesthetic, as it effectively eliminates desk reflections that often muddy the sound profile of standard forward-firing speakers. The inclusion of a dedicated headphone and microphone port on the front panel is a thoughtful touch for users who frequently switch between speakers and headsets.
Compared to the Razer Nommo series, the Mako X offers a more compact form factor while maintaining a similar commitment to high-quality audio reproduction. While the Nommo V2 series may offer higher peak power outputs and dedicated subwoofers, the Mako X excels in environments where desk real estate is limited but high-quality, full-range audio is still a priority. It serves as a direct upgrade for users currently relying on monitor-integrated speakers or entry-level 2.0 systems.
- Does the Mako X require an external power adapter? It supports USB-C power delivery; while it functions on standard USB-C, a 45W+ PD adapter is recommended for maximum 30W RMS output.
- Can I use these speakers with a console? Yes, the 3.5mm and Bluetooth 5.3 inputs allow for connectivity with consoles and mobile devices.
- Is the RGB lighting compatible with other devices? Yes, through Razer Synapse, the lighting can be synced with other Chroma-enabled peripherals.
- Does it support virtual surround sound? Yes, virtual 7.1 surround sound is supported when connected via USB to a Windows 11 PC.
- What is the benefit of the passive radiator? The passive radiator enhances low-frequency performance, allowing the small speakers to produce deeper bass than traditional sealed enclosures.
