Using the Acton IV feels tactile and intentional. The physical brass-finished knobs provide immediate control over bass and treble, allowing for quick adjustments that software-only interfaces often lack. The inclusion of Dynamic Loudness ensures that the tonal balance remains consistent whether you are listening at a whisper or filling the room with sound. The redesigned bass reflex port effectively eliminates the distortion often found in smaller speakers, providing a punchy, tight low-end that complements the crisp highs produced by the updated waveguide-equipped tweeters.
Compared to the previous Acton III, the IV model introduces significant upgrades in wireless stability and codec support. While the Acton III was a capable performer, the addition of LDAC and Bluetooth 5.3 makes the Acton IV a superior choice for users streaming high-bitrate audio from modern smartphones. Furthermore, the move toward a more repairable design philosophy aligns with current sustainability trends, distinguishing it from many disposable consumer electronics in the same price bracket.
